Some of my fondest
memories as a young Christian growing up have always been the great meetings
held within our brotherhood. They may have only been for one service, while
some of them lasted for several days. Some were just local meetings with only
two or three churches, and others more regional with churches from all over the
state or maybe even several states. But no matter how large or small, they were
always up Lifting and challenging, and we would always leave for home with a
renewed sense of purpose as a Christian and a greater resolved to serve the
Lord and His Church
Without a doubt, the National
Prayer Clinic has for over 41 years been one of those great meetings. Some of
the greatest preaching ever heard has been right there, in the heart of the
Appalachians on top of Baldwin Mountain. We have come to call it the “Mountain
of Prayer”. Along with great preaching, there was always plenty of great
singing especially when all the men lifted their voices in the chorus of “How
Great Thou Art”. There was good food, enough for seconds and sometimes thirds.
And who would forget Brother Clarence Greenleaf coming in the dorms
before daylight hollering, “Get Up! Get Up! It’s time for devotions!” The
fellowship was second to none and friendships were made that would last a
lifetime.
Over the years, a lot
of great meetings have come and gone, and others have taken their place. But we
are thankful to be able to say that the National Prayer Clinic is still going
strong. Many things have changed over the past 41 years. Some names and faces
have changed and some will only be seen again when we go back to the pages of
the past or someday join them in Heaven. But thank God, His Word remains the
same and the theme that Brother Clarence established at the very beginning is
still “LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY”. Why? Because, just as the Lord’s disciples who
could have asked him for anything, we know that our greatest need today still
involves us being able to pray as we should.
If you are serious
about your prayer life and want to deepen your relationship with God, then we
want to invite you to the 42nd National Prayer Clinic on October 9th,
10th & 11th, 2012. Even now, work is taking place on
the mountain getting ready for this great meeting. Three days of the greatest
worship and fellowship this side of Heaven is being prepared for you. So make
plans now and bring your friends. We look forward to seeing you on the
“Mountain Of Prayer”
